Joan Blackman is the Associate Concertmaster of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and is sought after as a first class chamber musician in Canada. She has performed chamber music with premier groups such as the Pendereski String Quartet, the Purcell String Quartet, Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival, Curio, Music in the Morning, Vancouver New Music, Turning Point, and in recital broadcasts on CBC. She is also an active teacher, giving master classes throughout B.C.
Joan has performed and recorded as soloist with Vancouver Symphony, Victoria Symphony, CBC Radio Orchestra, and Banff Festival Orchestra.
After studying at McGill with Maurizio Fuks and with Vancouver's Gwen Thompson, Joan joined the CBC Radio Orchestra and the Vancouver Opera Orchestra in 1985, the Vancouver Symphony in 1987, and was awarded the position of Associate Concertmaster in 2003.
This is her fourth season as Artistic Director of the Vetta Chamber Music Society, a five concert series of the best in chamber music.
