Seattle Symphony Orchestra
A native of London, England, Timothy Garland came to the United States as a recipient of a Wingate Scholarship to study at the Indiana University School of Music, Bloomington. Under the tutelage of Yuval Yaron, he graduated with a bachelors and master's degree in music and upon graduation was awarded the coveted Performer's Certificate for Outstanding Performance in Violin.
Garland has received numerous scholarships and awards including a Dorothy Starling Scholarship, the Camerata of Bloomington Scholarship and the Harold Hyam Award. His competition prizes include 1st prize at the National Young Artists Competition of Midland/Odessa and 3rd prize at the Washington (DC) International Competition.
Garland joined the Seattle Symphony first violin section in 2005. He was previously a member of the Houston Symphony's first violin section. He has also performed with the San Francisco and Detroit Symphonies.
Away from music, he enjoys watching Indiana Hoosiers basketball, walking his two somewhat unruly dogs, and looking after his baby daughter. He particularly appreciates the outstanding natural beauty Seattle has to offer and is pleased that he lives in a town that serves such great coffee.
